How to Set a Modern Dinner Party
There are many themes when it comes to setting your table for a dinner party. Many surround themselves around a holiday theme encompassing Christmas colors or Easter eggs. One of my favorite themes for a table setting is “Modern.” The Modern Dinner Party style has made its way into our homes from architecture, furniture and now the dinner party table.
This unique and chic style is so simple to set as your dinner party theme for the night. I always say that the minute your guest sits down at their seat it should be an experience. From the décor to the food, make it an unforgettable night!
Your color pallet should stay neutral: black, gold and white are my favorites. Keep the centerpiece simple by having small bud vases of flowers {ranunculus pictured}. Pick one type of flower and color for the table so it stays clean. Spread a leafy green down first, like silver dollar eucalyptus or lemon tree branches, to give the center a bit of color and to feel full.
Air plants are the new succulents! Ok, I could be making that up, but air plants are much more fun on your table because you can place them on any object, and they don’t need to sit in water. I love these geometric slanted white vases from World Market to put air plants in.
Mood lighting is key to this modern dinner party table setting. Have lots of gold candle holders like these from World Market and Crate and Barrel and a mix of tapered and pillar candles, both in white to match the flowers will achieve the setting.
Ultimately, a good dinner party is about sharing a good meal and good conversation together. When it comes to what to serve, keep your meal simple but full of flavor {there are tons of recipes on the La Crema blog}. Since we are officially in spring I recommend the La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, Monterey Pinot Gris {my favorite!} and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir for the red wine lovers. They are all light wines and go great with a fish or risotto!
